A 70-year-old wheelchair user was injured in a fire in the Starnberg fire station on Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out in an apartment above the vehicle hall.

Starnberg – It must have been dramatic scenes that happened on Sunday afternoon in the Starnberg fire station of all places.

There are several municipal rental apartments above the vehicle hall.

And in one of them, located on the second floor, there was a “full room fire”, as commander Markus Grasl told Starnberger Merkur.

A 70-year-old wheelchair user suffered moderate to severe burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

He was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

The helicopter had landed on the soccer field in Percha, and the rescue service brought the injured person from Ferdinand-Maria-Strasse there.

Two officers from the nearby police station may have saved the 70-year-old's life.

The officer (29) and his colleague (24) reacted quickly and carried the man out of the apartment.

They themselves suffered from mild smoke inhalation and were also taken to the clinic to be on the safe side.

According to Grasl, several other residents were able to get out of the house independently.

The police were not aware of any other injuries as of Sunday evening.

A total of nine people are registered in the city apartments.

The fire alarm went off at 3:19 p.m.

With the support of the comrades from Söcking and using the turntable ladder, the emergency services were able to extinguish the fire relatively quickly, so that the operation was over after about an hour and a half.

Nevertheless, the apartment was initially uninhabitable, explained Grasl.

On Sunday, he could say just as little about the cause of the fire as a spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria-North.

The fire investigators of the Fürstenfeldbruck criminal police would start the investigation on Monday, she said on request.

There was also no information on the extent of the damage on Sunday.
