As a result of the Russian war against Ukraine, other tech companies are restricting their services in Russia.
The US streaming service Netflix announced that it was suspending the service after announcing a few days earlier that it would not make Russian television channels available via the platform, contrary to regulations.
Starting Monday, it will no longer be possible to sign up for Netflix in Russia, and existing customers will still be able to watch the service until the next monthly payment is due.
The social network TikTok also announced on Sunday that it would restrict its service in view of a Russian law change in the country.
Users in Russia will no longer be able to stream live and upload new content to the video service.
In view of the new legal situation, you have no other choice, TikTok tweeted.
Up to 15 years in prison for “false information”
According to Friday's change in the law, spreading alleged misinformation about Russian forces can be punished with hefty fines and up to 15 years in prison.
President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government describe, among other things, the war of aggression in Ukraine exclusively as a special operation.
The Russian authorities have already announced that they will completely block TikTok rival Facebook, and access to Twitter will be restricted.
Unlike the other social media platforms, TikTok does not come from the USA, but belongs to the Chinese group ByteDance.
