The gaps in education are rolling out to academia Israel today

Medical students talk about economic backs they should get for at least a decade from their parents • The psychometric test is also a barrier • Only investment in peripheral education and breaking down filter walls can make the pyramid

If this were realistic, the most important decision an Israeli child could make was to decide who to be born with.

As Israel matures and the data piles up, this fact worsens.

Let us, for example, look at the latest data from the Ministry of Health: A necessary condition for an Israeli medical student is a rich home.

80 percent of medical students in Israel are children of parents from the upper deciles.

Only 56 percent of students come from the top decile.

Everything Else?

Being left behind or rolling into expensive, and often less quality, studies in Eastern Europe and other countries.

Why is this happening, actually?

Medical students talk about the financial backing they should get for at least a decade from their parents, before they stand on their own two feet and become among the biggest earners in the economy.

In fact, it starts long before that.

To be admitted to medicine, you need an outstanding matriculation certificate and an excellent psychometric score.

Who gets an outstanding matriculation certificate?

According to data from the Ministry of Education, these are those who study in the most powerful authorities.

Two years ago, 24.5 percent of recipients of an outstanding matriculation certificate were measured among the recipients of certificates in Ramat Hasharon.

In Sderot, Rahat and Ofakim - only 0.5%.

The psychometric test is also a barrier.

Since former Education Minister Shai Firon's statement that psychometrics will be abolished due to the inequality it produces, there have been countless sorting tests.

University presidents insist on taking the test, and the terrible gap between those who enter the gates of higher education and those who remain outside is exacerbated.

If we were just talking about the prestigious faculties of medicine, fine.

It turns out that those born into the highest deciles (9 and 10) have a 70 percent chance of starting undergraduate studies by the age of 30. Of the girls and boys of the lowest deciles (1 and 2), only 16 percent attend.

These trends will not be stopped by cheap words, but only determined and expensive deeds.

Only investing in peripheral education and breaking down filter walls, like the psychometric tests, can make the pyramid.

This requires a determined political force, which does not come to seize a place and enjoy power, but to produce a correction in the balance of power.

Tractate Avot presents two approaches to one who says "mine is mine - and yours is yours."

One says it's a mediocre, sensible measure.

This is "human nature."

And the winning approach says it's a degree of sodomy.

Sodom was the most sophisticated city in the world.

It collapsed due to the insistence on selfish concentration of every individual, family and community in its good, without looking at those around it.

The end of a society that tramples the children who grew up in the dark is destruction.

The numbers prove it.

Countries with high inequality "excel" in poor health, mistrust, mental illness, and violence.

The fact that this data is washed away by the endless noise, should be our start on the long road to correction.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
