French firms based in Ukraine have experienced this in recent days.
"It has been reported to us that Ukrainian employees of certain local subsidiaries have preferred to destroy the industrial tool rather than see it fall into the hands of the Russians"
, confides Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the Minister of Industry.
Installed near the front lines, these subsidiaries are far from being the only French collateral victims of the Russian invasion.
Some have stopped their activity because of the conflict.
Others continue because they produce essential goods, in food or health.
But some are deprived of arms.
Malterie Soufflet lost around 40 of its 350 employees, who took up arms in the first days of the conflict.
Some asked to be replaced by their wives.
