Because of the tense corona situation, the employees of the Isar 2 nuclear power plant are now being accommodated on the power plant site.

Essenbach - It is the last remaining nuclear power plant in Bavaria that still supplies electricity: Isar 2 near Landshut.

Only at the turn of the year did the lights go out in Gundremmingen* in Swabia.

There, the former nuclear power plant employees are now busy dismantling the plant.

The same fate is to befall Isar 2 at the end of the year.

But before that, the employees have to deal with another problem.

Because of Corona, the employees have to camp on the nuclear power plant site

Fully equipped accommodation, container rooms and caravans: since last weekend, shift personnel have been accommodated on the site of the Isar 2 nuclear power plant.

The reason: the still high number of corona infections in the Landshut district *.

Because the employees in their social environment are also increasingly affected by infections, the operator PreussenElektra decided to take this step.

According to information from the

BR

, preparations for this have been underway since the beginning of the year.

This is to protect staff and secure operations.

Nuclear power plant: tents as a common room

In addition to container rooms and caravans, tents were also set up on the site.

This houses the kitchens and common rooms for the staff.

In addition, the employees have several supervisors and a doctor available, who are also housed on the Isar 2 site*.

All employees who were quartered on the site have therefore volunteered.

The power plant site will be used as accommodation for three weeks.
