Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen the issue of providing humanitarian aid to all Syrians without politicization and on the basis of respect for Syria's sovereignty.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov held, during a meeting with Pedersen on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Forum in the Turkish city of Antalya, “a substantive discussion on a set of issues related to the political process in Syria led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the United Nations as stipulated in Security Council Resolution 2254.” “.
The statement added that "the tasks of providing humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need throughout Syria were considered without discrimination, politicization and preconditions and on the basis of respect for the country's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity."
Resolution 2254, which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in December 2015, affirms that the Syrians are the ones who determine the future of their country themselves without any external interference, and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.
