The prevailing tendency in Lebanon that examined the American mediator's proposal, Amos Hochstein, to draw a maritime border with Israel is to reject it, the Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar" affiliated with Hezbollah reported this morning (Friday).
According to the report, the reason for this is that according to the proposal, the potential "Qana" field will not be given to Lebanon exclusively and Israel will remain an enclave under its sovereignty.
This, according to the report, will provoke controversy within Lebanon between the governing institutions and the forces that reject any form of normalization with Israel (like Hezbollah).

In addition, Hezbollah and Amal opposed the proposal to establish a special committee to study the American proposal to draw a maritime border with Israel.

According to the report, the commanders behind the military delegation conducting the negotiations do not see any justification for sitting at a table that does not discuss line 29 (the line is stricter than line 23 ؛ NIS).
Recently, however, Lebanese President Ewan stated that Line 29 was "for the purpose of negotiations" and "there has been progress in contacts."
In any case, it has been reported that President Michel Ewan and Prime Minister Najib Mikati have completed the examination of the Hochstein proposal.
Al-Akhbar has learned that President Ewan convened a meeting on the issue that included several sources.
According to sources present at the meeting, the committee examined the proposal without reaching any conclusion, but left an open window for further consultation meetings.
According to the Lebanese newspaper, there is an initial tendency to reject the proposal, but in a way that will not anger the American mediator.
At the same time, sources told the Hezbollah-affiliated newspaper that "accepting the American proposal is a scandal," as it is similar to an "ambush" aimed at employing the Lebanese side in studying proposals that the Americans know are unacceptable.
According to the sources, these proposals are presented to distract from the permanent claim to the route under point 29 while adopting line 23 and facilitating the Israeli side that can invest in a shark field (which the route of point 29 crosses; SQ).
