Aggression of Yvan Colonna: parliamentarians demand an expansion of the investigations

2022-03-13T21:23:39.536Z

In the Assembly as in the Senate, several elected officials want all means to be put in place to find out the truth about the attack on the nationalist militant, even if the investigation also covers the situation of prisons in France.

The search for the truth about the circumstances of Yvan Colonna's attack in Arles prison begins this week.

The first three officials heard from Wednesday will be the director of the prison administration Laurent Ridel (Wednesday at 10 a.m.), the head of the central prison of Arles Marc Ollier and the official who had preceded him in this post, Corinne Puglierini (next Wednesday).

“Broader debate”

Monday morning, four deputies from Corsica as well as several deputies from various parliamentary groups (Liberties and Territories, GDR, UDI, LFI, Modem, LREM, LR, PS) are organizing a press conference to set out their expectations.

For Jean Félix Acquaviva, the extension of hearings is essential.

The parliamentarian, who knows the sports hall placed under video surveillance in which Yvan Colonna was attacked for several minutes, wonders about the lack of rapid intervention at the time of the facts.

“Given the questions that will be asked, it is obvious that other people will have to be summoned, including in the political field.

Because we will have to analyze the facts but also the genesis of this situation which is at the level of the status of the particularly supervised prisoners (DPS) which had not been lifted or on the management of the jihadists in prison.

We have enough elements to ask for a much broader debate than that announced by the national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office on the course of events

, ”explains the deputy.

After the attack on Yvan Colonna, two senators also called for the opening of a parliamentary inquiry.

Since then, four new senatorial groups have been added at the request of Marie-Arlette Carlotti, senator for Bouches-du-Rhône (PS) and Paul-Toussaint Parigi, senator for Haute-Corse (Solidarity and Territories).

The elected officials also want to shed light on the circumstances of this assassination attempt, while Colonna is still in critical condition.

From Colonna to the state of prisons

Like the deputies, who launch their hearings as part of a meeting of the law commission, the senators will also be able to exchange from Thursday at 3 p.m. with the director of the prison administration.

It's a first informal meeting

, explains Senator Parigi,

but we will not stop there because we want the organization of a parliamentary inquiry so that the truth is told.

If the parliamentary vacancy is an obstacle, we will continue until the resumption of work after the legislative elections.

And I know that the demands of parliamentarians will be extended to an inventory of prisons in France

 ”.

According to information collected by

Le Figaro

, the Senate should decide this week how this parliamentary control can be exercised, knowing that a commission of inquiry should not be hampered by the opening of legal proceedings.

Pending the investigations, in the Senate as in the Assembly, the parliamentarians hope to go as far as possible in understanding the event which set fire to the powder in Corsica.

The island of Beauty has been shaken by riots for a week and a new demonstration organized on Sunday in Bastia degenerated, causing the fire of the public finance center.

Gilles Simeoni, the president of the executive committee of Corsica, warned the government in the face of a situation which he considers unstable and potentially dangerous.

Prime Minister Jean Castex played the appeasement by lifting the DPS status of the three convicts of the Erignac commando, Yvan Colonna, Alain Ferrandi and Pierre Alessandri.

This decision makes it possible to envisage the rapprochement of prisoners in Corsica within the prison of Borgo.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has also been tasked with finding a solution.

But on the side of the Corsican authorities, we see no way out of the crisis without a clear gesture to the "

summit of the State

" which would take into account the nationalist fact in Corsica as an "

inescapable political reality

 ".
