Masks, Rattles and Snow: The Extreme Cold Wave Expected on Purim Israel today

2022-03-13T20:36:03.402Z

The forecast for the coming week is considered particularly unusual - and a sequence of cold days like this has not been measured in the last hundred years • Some localities, including Jerusalem, announced the advance of costumes in educational institutions, and the events will take place tomorrow • The full forecast for the coming week

It is very worthwhile to make warming costumes, because the Purim holiday celebrated this week is going to be the coldest ever - at least in terms of the expected weather.

According to a test conducted by the Meteorological Service, this is an unusual cold wave that has not been measured in the last hundred years.

The Jerusalem Municipality conducted in advance.

According to forecasts, in the coming days winter weather, rainy, very cold with a chance of light snow in Jerusalem already on Tuesday.

Due to the chance of snow, it was decided to advance the Purim celebrations in the educational institutions in Jerusalem by one day - from Tuesday to Monday.

This was agreed in an assessment of the current situation of the Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon, with relevant factors in the municipality and in cooperation with the municipal parents' organization.

In the Gush Etzion, Binyamin and Mount Hebron regional councils, they followed in the footsteps of Jerusalem and announced yesterday an introduction to the day of Purim celebrations in educational institutions.

Here too the reason is the warnings for stormy weather to the point of a real chance of snow.

It was therefore decided that the students would arrive at the schools dressed up as early as tomorrow.

Rain and snow in the mountains

As mentioned, the holiday week will be marked by the unusual cold, relative to March.

The cold wave that began to hit our region over the weekend with very cold air penetrating from Russia towards the eastern Mediterranean, is expected to reach its peak on Tuesday with rains and snow in the mountains.

Tomorrow will be partly cloudy to cloudy and noticeably colder than usual.

A respite from the rains is expected, except for the possibility of a local drip.

At night the rains will resume in the north and center of the country.

On Tuesday, it rained intermittently from the north of the country to the Negev accompanied by hail, and there may be thunderstorms.

In addition, there are fears of floods in the eastern and Negev streams.

There will be another drop in temperatures, and it will be especially cold than usual.

Light snow is expected in the northern and central mountains over 700 meters (including in Jerusalem), and light snow is also possible in the Negev.

During the night the precipitation will decrease, and it is expected to be cold in the mountains and inland.

Meteo Tech reports that it will be partly cloudy on Wednesday and precipitation will stop.

There will be a slight rise in temperatures, but it will still be considerably colder than normal for the season.

Record-breaking cold on Thursday - Purim - the weather will be partly cloudy with no real rain expected, except for the possibility of a light local drizzle.

Temperatures will rise, but it will still be relatively cool for the season.

The cold wave is particularly unusual for March

Meanwhile, while a comprehensive examination of the cold anomalies will be measured at the end of the event, an initial inspection by the Meteorological Service indicates that this is an almost unprecedented event for March and not common even in the major winter months.

In Jerusalem, for example, where a 6-day sequence is expected (from last Friday to Wednesday to general; dl) with a maximum temperature below 8 degrees and a minimum temperature below 3 degrees, there was no such sequence in March from the beginning of the measurements at the existing station in central Jerusalem. In 1950.

Also, in other stations in Jerusalem, which have been operating since the 19th century, similar sequences were found in March only in 1910 and 1894.

Even with regard to the peak winter months (January and February) this is not a common occurrence.

In the last 25 years about 5 such sequences have been received (before that it was a bit more common)
