Precisely before Passover: poultry prices will rise Israel today

2022-03-13T21:23:33.234Z

Industry source: "The rise in prices comes from rising prices on the part of the blending institutes" • Secretary General of the Poultry Breeders' Association:

Precisely before Passover, during which poultry consumption increases significantly, poultry prices will rise by about 10%.

An industry source told Israel Today that the reason is that apparently "the blend institutes have informed the slaughterhouses of price increases, and they are rolling it on." The blend institutes have increased their costs by 4% -3%, and intend to raise them by another 6% .

The cost of the mixture is two-thirds of the production costs, so it is significant.

On top of that, it's not just the cost of the mixture but the transportation costs that have skyrocketed, the ships waiting at the port, the unloading and everything related to it.

The same source thinks this is a realistic increase: "All the slaughterhouses lost a lot of money last year. Once there is a surplus, they sell the poultry for less than the cost price. They do not pay the breeders properly, and this is where the struggle begins."

The Association of Grain Importers said that poultry food prices had risen even before the war in Ukraine, due to traffic jams and the insane increase in fines paid by importers of grain and grain, which are the basis of livestock food, to shipping companies around the world.

The war complicates everything sevenfold.

The union says that all importers are facing a severe global crisis and huge fines for every ship that gets stuck in the country for many weeks.

There is also a phenomenon of shipping companies around the world refusing to ship ships to Israel because they get stuck in ports for a long time.

It should be noted that in every issue of agricultural produce there is a long debate about who is responsible for the price differences.

The chains blame the farmers and they, naturally, blame the chains.

It will be clarified that some of the chains have been notified of a price increase, but it is not yet known who will update the price and at what rate.

Moti Alkabetz, Secretary General of the Poultry Breeders' Association: "I do not know about an expected increase.

However, the price of the blends has almost doubled.

The price of chicken to the consumer is determined by the chains, not by the growers or marketers. "

According to him, even at times when the breeder receives less than the cost of the crop, the chains sell the whole chicken at NIS 18 per kilo - and "cut the coupon" the biggest, so they jump on the bandwagon with input prices.

"If the slaughterhouses raise prices, it is probably because they do not withstand the pressure of the growers, who are losing money today. The price today for a pound of broiler per tower is NIS 6.2. If you look for the gap between the breeder and the consumer, it is a huge gap."

"In my opinion, the tower can raise the price, but that does not mean that the price must be raised for the consumer in Israel. The chains only once do not reduce the price when the price per tower goes down."

Global rise in prices

To questions about whether the situation is expected to be short of meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and fruits, and whether prices are expected to rise, the Ministry of Agriculture answered:

As part of the deployment, the firm monitors market prices at the weekly level and discusses solutions and possible actions for the various scenarios.

According to estimates by all the professional factors in our office, there is no expectation of a shortage of meat, poultry, eggs, vegetables or fruits.

As for the eggs, the price is controlled and therefore there will be no change. "

Regarding beef and poultry, there is a global increase in the price of animal feed due to the war in Ukraine.

However, there is no ability at this stage to assess how this will affect.

The ministry will continue to update as needed. "
