Israel announced today (Monday) for the first time that it will cooperate with the international sanctions imposed on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said at a press conference with his Slovak counterpart in Bratislava that "Israel will not bypass the sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and Western countries."

Lapid's remarks come a few days after the public message conveyed by US Deputy Foreign Minister Victoria Noland to Israel.

In an interview with News 12, Noland said the United States expects Israel "not to be a haven for the dirty money that drives Putin's war machine."

Foreign Ministry sources said that Lapid's message had already been conveyed to the Americans in the past two weeks in private talks, but today it was decided to say the things in public as well.

Lapid said at the press conference that the Foreign Ministry is coordinating the issue of the application of international sanctions on Russia together with the Bank of Israel, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, the Airports Authority, the Ministry of Energy and other parties.

Foreign Ministry officials said that although there is no law in Israel that allows sanctions to be imposed on other countries, several steps have been taken in the past two weeks to adapt Israeli conduct to American and European sanctions.

For example, steps have been taken to prevent long-term parking of Russian oligarchs' private jets that are under sanctions or that will still be under sanctions at Ben Gurion Airport. In addition, the Bank of Israel has sharpened its procedures for banks.

"Israel, like Slovakia,

"There is no justification for undermining Ukraine's territorial independence and there is no justification for attacks on the civilian population," Lapid told a news conference. "This war must end.

Israel will do everything in its power to assist in the mediation efforts designed to stop the fire and restore peace.

We are working together with our great ally, the United States, and with our European partners, to prevent the tragedy from continuing. "
