Referee Felix Zwayer explained the odd goal in the Bundesliga game between FSV Mainz 05 and Arminia Bielefeld (4-0) as technical weaknesses.
“The provider has to evaluate that.
We heard that the system was checked during the game and that there was indeed a malfunction," said Zwayer on Saturday.
Previously, goal-line technology had sounded the alarm when Moussa Niakhaté headed the ball, even though the ball was obviously not entirely behind the line.
Mainz – After viewing the video images at the edge of the field, Zwayer denied the goal for the supposed 2-0.
The 40-year-old himself has expressed the desire to watch the scene again on the video screen.
"I really wanted to.
I wanted to get my own picture.
It also gave me the opportunity to authentically convey the whole thing to the players," said Zwayer.
Mainz sports director Martin Schmidt said: "Technology played a trick on that.
It was a technical error, that also exists.” dpa
