The police in the Dachau district registered fewer crimes in 2021 than in 2020.

A consequence of the pandemic.

In one area, however, there were significantly more cases.

Dachau – The police registered 4191 criminal offenses in 2021 in the Dachau district.

This corresponds to a decrease of 8.6 percent compared to the previous year 2020.

"Looking at the last ten years, the number of crimes in 2021 is again well below the average of 5014 cases," as Chief Police Inspector Björn Scheid explains in the crime report.

The clear-up rate for 2021 is 68.6 percent, an increase of 3.6 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The crime rate last year was 2702 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants - the comparative value for Bavaria as a whole is 4138 crimes.

Without taking offenses under the law on foreign nationals into account, the Dachau district has a crime rate of 2,454 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants (Bavaria as a whole: 3,869).

At 23 percent, theft accounts for the largest proportion of recorded crimes.

15.9 percent of the crimes are property and counterfeiting offences.

Bodily injury offenses account for 9.8 percent of all crimes.

Specifically, one attempted homicide was registered (compared to three in 2020), 129 sexual offenses (up 21.7 percent compared to 2020), 968 thefts (down 14.6 percent), 410 assault offenses (down 20.7 percent ), 482 property damage (down 30.6 percent), 326 drug offenses (down 4.4 percent), 158 shoplifting (down 22.2 percent), 231 bicycle theft (down 29.4 percent).

At 35 cases, the number of registered home burglaries fell by 27.1 percent compared to the previous year.

Scheid attributes the sharp decline in personal injury offenses and property damage mainly to the pandemic.

"There were neither carnival parades nor folk festivals."

In the phenomenon of domestic violence, 148 cases were registered, slightly fewer than in the previous year (150).

According to the police, the increase in recorded sexual offenses is exclusively due to cases of criminal handling of pornographic images;

here, with 76 cases, there was an increase of 105 percent compared to the previous year.

According to Scheid, in many cases these are young people who share criminal content on their smartphones.

According to Scheid, the fact that these offenses are increasing so much is due to the fact that smartphone users are getting younger and younger and they are not trained in how to use their smartphones.

The attempted homicide is a case of domestic violence on May 4 in Bergkirchen, in which a 66-year-old shot his 63-year-old wife in the family home with a gun and was subsequently taken into custody.

Disregarding offenses under the law on foreign nationals, the proportion of suspects who were identified as foreigners was – as in the previous year – 39.7 percent.

Immigrants, i.e. asylum seekers or people with refugee status and illegal residents, make up 9.6 percent of all suspects (minus 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous year).

The proportion of children, young people and adolescents (persons under the age of 21) among the identified suspects is 20.7 percent (plus 0.5 percentage points).

Bergkirchen front runner

When looking at the individual communities in the district, most crimes in relation to the number of inhabitants were registered in Bergkirchen with 52 offenses – each per 1000 inhabitants.

But that's not due to the commercial area and the resulting burglaries or tank theft, as Björn Scheid explained.

The Fuchsberg car park is located in the municipality of Bergkirchen.

The police carry out checks there to uncover violations of the law on foreign nationals.

"In these cases, the crime scene is Bergkirchen," says Scheid.

In Dachau, the police recorded 38 crimes.

Weichs has the lowest burden with eight offences.
