Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann has indicated that Baden-Württemberg will no longer have any further protective measures in corona hotspots after April 2nd.

"These hotspots are on paper, but they cannot be used with legal certainty," said the Green politician on Monday evening on SWR television.

"It's so badly done that we can't do anything with it," criticized Kretschmann, referring to the federal government.

Stuttgart – The green-black coalition in the southwest had considered declaring the whole country a “hotspot” after a transitional phase from the beginning of April in order to be able to stick to protective measures such as masks and access restrictions a little longer due to the high incidence.

From the beginning, however, as in other countries, there were also legal concerns as to whether the federal law would provide such a regulation for an entire country.

The stricter hotspot rules are intended more for locally limited, threatening infection situations;

the state parliament would have to decide on this.

Kretschmann fears that such a regulation on its own could not stand up in court.

“We always see that people complain about it, and then the courts collect it.” The head of government renewed his criticism of the traffic light government that with the law it was taking the instruments for countermeasures in the pandemic out of the hands of the countries.

He doesn't understand how you can throw away the fire extinguisher when it's still burning.

Despite corona financial worries, Bavaria retains its top AAA rating

On Saturday, the contact restrictions that had been in place for months and also the capacity limits for events in the southwest were completely abolished.

The Bundestag and Bundesrat had previously passed the new Infection Protection Act.

Like all other federal states, Baden-Württemberg has since used the transitional rule in the new law in order to be able to maintain the mask requirement and access restrictions until April 2nd.

At the weekend, Bavaria also announced that no arrangements would be made for the period after April 2nd.

The rule is impractical.
