The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that it has suspended talks with Japan on concluding a peace treaty between the two countries due to Tokyo's imposition of unilateral restrictions on Moscow over its own operation in Ukraine.

A ministry statement issued today, according to the Russia Today website, said, "The Russian side has no intention, in the current circumstances, to continue talks with Japan on a peace treaty, given the impossibility of discussing signing a founding document on bilateral relations with a country that stands clearly unfriendly positions and seeks to harm the interests of our country." .

The ministry indicated that Russia had taken a number of retaliatory measures due to the apparent unfriendly nature of the unilateral restrictions imposed by Japan against Russia against the background of the situation in Ukraine.
