Oksana Baulina, a Russian journalist from The Insider website, was killed today (Wednesday) as a result of shelling in the Podlaski region of Kiev, her workplace said.
"She filmed the destruction after the shelling of Podlaski district in the capital by Russian forces and was shot down. Another civilian was killed along with her, two people who accompanied her were injured and hospitalized," the insider said.
Prior to joining Insider, Baulina worked as a producer for the Anti-Corruption Foundation, an opposition organization founded in Moscow and defined as an extremist organization in Russia.
"She was forced to leave her homeland to continue exposing government corruption in Russia," it was noted.
"The Insider expresses its deepest condolences to Oksana's family and friends," the company said in a statement.
"We will continue to cover the war in Ukraine, including Russian war crimes, such as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas causing the deaths of civilians and journalists."
Insider added that friends and former colleagues mourned Baulina's death, praising her "phenomenal sense of moral clarity" and condemning the killing of journalists who covered the war in Ukraine.
According to the RSF website, apart from Baulina, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine four journalists have been killed and seven injured.
