The Europeans, who are holding a summit where debates on energy will be central, unveil a third series of proposals in five months.

On the eve of a European summit where debates on energy will be central, the European Commission is putting a new series of options on the table.

For this third series of proposals in five months, inevitably, certain already known ideas stand out.

The Member States are also called upon to make better use of the relaxations already granted on State aid benefiting businesses or households.

Other options, hitherto little developed, have gained credibility.

Long reluctant, the European executive gave in to growing pressure and agreed to consider intervening in the energy markets.

For each option, the budgetary risks, distortion of competition and slowing down of the green transition are pointed out.

All measures must be

“exceptional”

“short term”.
