The Chinese authorities announced today that some human remains and parts of the wreckage of the plane belonging to the East China Company that crashed in the south of the country have been recovered.
"The wreckage and body parts have been handed over to the investigation team," Xinhua quoted the head of the Guangxi Fire Department, Cheng Shi, as saying, adding that "rescuers from the department have covered a search area of 46,000 square meters."
And the Chinese authorities announced earlier today that one of the plane's black boxes had been found after searches over the previous two days.
The head of the Aviation Safety Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China said at a press conference that the external body of the black box that was found today at the site of the crashed plane was seriously damaged and is initially believed to be the cockpit voice recorder.
A Boeing 737 passenger plane belonging to China Eastern Airlines crashed the day before yesterday near the city of Wuzhou, causing a fire in the mountains and rainwater flooded the wreckage area.
Emergency teams used hand tools, drones and sniffer dogs in rainy conditions to comb the dense forest slopes to retrieve the two black boxes containing flight data and cockpit voice recorders as well as any human remains.
Flight 5735 was flying at 29,000 feet when it made a sharp, rapid descent, according to data from Flightradar.
According to the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration, the plane was carrying 132 people, including nine crew members, all of whom were killed in the accident.
