London, SANA- Hundreds of sailors demonstrated in the main English ports to protest against the layoffs of 800 employees of a company

Hundreds of sailors demonstrated in the main English ports to protest against the layoffs of 800 employees of the "B&O Ferries" ferry company as a result of the increase in fuel prices and the resulting losses.

The BBC reported that the demonstrations took place in the cities of Liverpool, Dover and Kingston upon Hull, in addition to Dublin and Rotterdam.

In turn, the dockers of the British company refused to load a ship that was preparing to leave in solidarity with the laid-off seafarers.

The British company had notified 800 seafarers of immediate layoffs and advised customers to use other operators and to replace crews staffed by British sailors with cheaper foreign workers.

B&O Ferries operates ferry routes connecting Britain to Europe via the English Channel and Ireland via the Irish Sea, as well as shipping within Europe via the North Sea.
