French President Emmanuel Macron has called for more efforts to de-escalate the Ukraine crisis before things get out of hand.
On the statements of US President Joe Biden regarding his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Macron said in statements to the (France 3 TV) channel: "What we want to do collectively is to stop the war and prevent escalation, and we must be realistic and do everything so that the situation does not get out of control."
He added that "the United States is an important ally for France, but those who live next to Russia are the Europeans," noting that he would discuss with Putin the issue of a proposed humanitarian corridor to the city of Mariupol, which was discussed with Turkey and Greece.
According to the British Daily Mail, experts in US foreign policy criticized Biden's statements, and this is not the first time that the White House has intervened to correct Biden's statements about Putin.
For his part, Richard Haass, president of the American Council on Foreign Relations, a Washington-based think tank, expressed concern about Biden's statements that expand the scope of American goals in the war, considering that it is not in the interest of the United States to add more risks.
The Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, strongly criticized Biden's statements against Putin, warning that such statements further narrow the window of opportunity for normalization of relations between Russia and the United States.
