He would not use the term "butcher," Macron said on Sunday (March 27).
It is important to prevent "an escalation of words and actions" in the Ukraine war.
Ukraine-Russia negotiations: Biden outraged Kremlin - White House provides explanation
During his visit to Poland on Saturday, Biden called Putin a "butcher" in view of the suffering of the Ukrainian civilian population and also said that he could not remain in power.
This caused confusion.
The White House then declared that Biden was not seeking “regime change” in Moscow.
Rather, the US President wanted to say "that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region."
