In the evening, the Labour and Welfare Bureau stated that the Permanent Secretary Liu Yan chaired the first meeting of the Inter-departmental Working Group on Strengthening the Anti-epidemic Capacity of Residential Homes in the afternoon. At the meeting, it was suggested to refer to the "Time-limited Plan to Improve Infection Control and Ventilation Facilities in Residential Homes" launched by the SWD in the previous year. With the assistance of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, a short-term on-site inspection of the ventilation conditions of the participating institutions will be conducted to ensure that the measures to improve ventilation are continuously and effectively implemented, such as whether the facilities such as high-efficiency air filters and exhaust fans are continuously and correctly used, and the replacement of filter devices. and proper maintenance, as well as the need to replace and strengthen related equipment, etc.

SWD will request private and self-financing RCHEs that have not yet participated in the scheme to join.

In addition, the DH and the DH will once again arrange for nurses to visit the RCHEs to inspect the infection control measures in the RCHEs and instruct the staff on epidemic prevention knowledge and skills.

As for respite care centers, the working group reviewed the mechanism for sending confirmed residents to respite care centers, further clarified the roles of the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority, the Social Welfare Department and residential care homes, and strengthened coordination and information sharing, so that patients with mild symptoms and those with severe illnesses could be improved. Elderly and disabled persons who are stable and in need of care are sent to respite centers as soon as possible, reducing the pressure on hospitals and reducing the risk of infection in residential homes.

In addition, the working group also discussed matters such as transportation arrangements for entering and leaving the respite center.

Law Chi-kwong, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, said earlier that the working group was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Lau Yan, and included representatives from the Development Bureau, the Social Welfare Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority.
