Pope Francis begins a short two-day visit to the island of Malta on April 2.
Scheduled a year ago, then postponed due to the pandemic, this 56th trip of the pontificate was to be marked by the issue of migration, a theme he will address this Sunday during a meeting with refugees.
But the news of the war in Ukraine has upset the cards.
The question of peace in Europe will therefore be the highlight of this trip.
This is how the first speech of the pope, which must be delivered before the diplomatic authorities, late Saturday morning in the Palace of the Grand Master of Valletta, the capital, should see Francis condemn once again the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The pope should launch an appeal for an immediate ceasefire, negotiation and disarmament, his great hobbyhorse, he who has been waging a war with arms since the beginning of his pontificate.
