Pakistan's Supreme Court today annulled the dissolution of the National Assembly (Parliament) and decided to vote the opposition motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
(AFP) quoted the court as saying in a statement, "The refusal of the deputy speaker of the National Assembly to put forward the opposition's motion for a vote of no-confidence against Khan is against the constitution and without legal effect."
The Pakistani opposition had announced that it had mustered a sufficient number of votes to strip Khan, who won the elections in 2018, of the parliamentary majority, but the deputy speaker of the National Assembly refused to accept the motion of the vote of no-confidence, describing it as unconstitutional because it was caused by foreign interference.
The Pakistani Prime Minister revealed at the end of last month that the United States had threatened to topple his government because of his refusal to establish American military bases in his country, accusing Washington of supporting the opposition.
