Toulouse, Montpellier, Lille, Strasbourg, Nantes, Rennes... We have analyzed the results obtained by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, municipality by comm

He missed the march of the second round by a very short head, despite the mobilization of the “useful vote”.

But despite this third failure in the presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon however improved his performance in 2017 and brought down several large cities.

A notable figure: coming first in only 3,000 municipalities (compared to 12,700 for Emmanuel Macron and nearly 20,000 for Marine Le Pen), he won 31% of the vote in towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants, far ahead of the head of state (26%) and the frontist (16%).

Let's first note the full card garnered by the leader Insoumis in Overseas, with an absolute majority reached in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana.

In mainland France, it is in Ile-de-France that Jean-Luc Mélenchon achieved his best score, with more than 30% of the vote, a jump of more than eight points which allows him, for a difference of 2,500 votes, to take the lead on Emmanuel Macron.

As in 2017, Mélenchon (30.09%) won the 19th and 20th arrondissements in Paris, but also five new arrondissements.

In Seine-Saint-Denis, it is 49.09%, with impressive scores in Bobigny (60.14%) or Saint-Denis (61.13%).

In Seine-et-Marne, Mélenchon also came in first place, as in Val-de-Marne and Val-d'Oise.

The Insoumis candidate is above 20% in Occitania, where the two main regional cities have voted for the candidate from France insoumise (37% in Toulouse, 40.7% in Montpellier), but also in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and in Brittany.

Strong growth in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

In the first, he reached first place in seven of the 12 prefectures in the region (Valence, Chambéry, Le Puy-en-Velay, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Privas, Saint-Étienne), while he was ahead of his opponents in only two of them in 2017. He even allows himself to remove LR cities from the Lyon area such as Bron or Rilleux-la Pape.

In Brittany, the Insoumis leader arrives ahead of the RN in Finistère and Ille-et-Vilaine.

In Brest, the rebellious reached 28.17% (against 22.8% five years ago) and is neck and neck with Emmanuel Macron.

Rennes, led by the PS for more than 40 years, also placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon well ahead with 36.31% of the vote.

Before reading the map below, it should be remembered that Jean-Luc Mélenchon was allied with the Communists in 2017 and no longer in 2022.

In Paca, Jean-Luc Mélenchon largely wins in Marseille with 31.12% of the vote, an increase of more than six points.

In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, in Forcalquier, stronghold of Christophe Castaner, he is even ahead of the Head of State by twelve points.

Surprise in Strasbourg

In the Grand Est, Jean-Luc Mélenchon manages to gain a little more than one point and is clearly progressing in Metz, Nancy, Reims and Troyes.

The rebellious even peaks at 36% of the vote in Mulhouse, and especially creates surprise in Strasbourg (35.48%), inflicting a slap on the environmental candidate, Yannick Jadot.

In Hauts-de-France, he imposed himself as a socialist killer, achieving his best regional score at 21.95%, driven in particular by a record score in Lille - stronghold of Martine Aubry - where he leads the game at 40, 53%.

In the Pays de la Loire, the rebellious candidate retains the third place he had acquired in 2017, and takes first place (33.11%) in Nantes.

In the Centre-Val de Loire, Jean-Luc Mélenchon still obtains unprecedented scores in the two Loire metropolises, Orléans (28.50%) and Tours (29.91%).

He is hounding the Head of State each time.

In Normandy, he made a breakthrough in Rouen, where he came first with 33% of the vote, and in Le Havre, where he was still in the lead and even improved his score, this time with 30.17% of the vote.

In New Aquitaine, finally, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, second on the podium five years ago, is placed this time, with 19.92% of the votes, constantly behind the RN, except in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
