Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that it was too early to comment on the photos in which the Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk appears in handcuffs.
"I can't say anything about the authenticity of the photos in which Medvedchuk appeared," Peskov said, adding that it would be wrong to say anything about it without confirmation.
He added, "There is a lot of fake news now coming from Ukraine, and a lot of fake news is made professionally or unprofessional in Ukraine with the help of international experts, so it is wrong to consider this news immediately real."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that his forces had arrested Medvedchuk during a special security operation.
On his account on Telegram, Zelensky posted a photo of a man suspected of being the head of the political council of the opposition Platform for Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, handcuffed and boasting that a special operation had been carried out thanks to the Ukrainian security services.
Units of the Russian Armed Forces had launched a military operation in Ukraine at the request of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics to end the attacks by the forces of the Ukrainian regime on them.
