From Montana to Michigan, the Easter eggs could be covered in snow this weekend, and it's going to be a wet weekend for many in the southeastern and northeastern United States.

If you have outdoor plans this weekend, you may need to pack your parka or umbrella.

Winter returns to the Midwest

Snow showers and below normal temperatures won't feel like spring.

Minneapolis normally sees a high temperature of around 13°C, but this weekend it will be around 4°C, making it feel more like early March.

Bismarck, North Dakota normally sees a high in the mid-10s, but on Saturday the expected high is -3C, the normal high temperature for mid-February.

Not only will both cities be cold this weekend, but there will also be possibly snow on Sunday, so the Easter egg hunt may be a little more challenging this year.

A Soggy Weekend in the Southeast

Some cities, like New Orleans, will see a chance of rain beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday night.

Atlanta, Birmingham, Alabama and Jackson, Mississippi could also get multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms starting Friday night and continuing into Sunday.

It's all thanks to a front that essentially comes to a standstill in many southern states, bringing extended periods of rain.

While it won't be a downpour for everyone, there's a chance of rain everywhere from Shreveport, Louisiana to Savannah, Georgia this weekend.

Most showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring less than 2 inches of rain total, with some heavier thunderstorms expected from Dallas to Panama City, Florida.

These storms could also produce damaging winds, as well as frequent lightning and heavy downpours.

For some cities, Columbia, South Carolina, and Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, rain is expected primarily on Saturday, allowing for drier conditions on Sunday and a chance to do some outdoor activities without getting soaked.

Mixed climate for the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast

Like cities in the Carolinas, many areas of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will only have to deal with rain for the middle of the weekend.

New York, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are forecast for rain on Saturday, but will have a drier second half of the weekend.

However, after the system moves through the area, temperatures will drop a bit on Sunday.

Boston, for example, will go from a forecast high in the mid-15C on Saturday to a high in the mid-10C on Sunday.

Similarly, Philadelphia goes from a forecast high of 21 degrees on Saturday to the mid-10s on Sunday.

A new system arrives for the West Coast

Portland, Oregon has had measurable rain or snow every day this week and could use a break.

We will have to wait until Sunday for a day without rain forecast.

A new system moving up the West Coast will bring additional rain (and snow at higher elevations) from Seattle to San Francisco beginning Friday night.

The system begins in Northern California before moving north and east over the weekend.

The heaviest rain will be located over Northern California, where 1 to 3 inches is expected through Sunday.

For the higher elevations of the Cascades, Sierra and Olympic Ranges, snow is also forecast Friday night through Saturday.

By Saturday night, moisture is pushing into the Intermountain West and bringing some light snow across the Rocky Mountains.
