The Republican National Committee (RNC) voted unanimously Thursday to withdraw from America's Commission on Presidential Televised Duels (CPD).
The committee said the group, which has run TV duels for decades, is biased and refuses to reform.
“Today the RNC voted to back away from the biased CPD and we will find newer, better platforms for TV dueling to ensure future nominees are not forced to face the biased CPD to present their arguments to the American people to represent," committee spokeswoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.
It's unclear what format these televised duels will take, or if they'll happen as often as they have in recent decades.
The nonprofit commission, which has run the TV duels since 1987, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters news agency.
With political rifts deepening in the US, fewer televised duels could mean Americans have less access to unfiltered information about their potential presidents.
The CPD was formed to include the debates as an integral part of the presidential election.
Republicans have long accused the commission of being biased in favor of Democratic candidates.
