President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden released their 2021 tax returns on Friday, reporting an income of $610,702 during their first year in the White House.
On that income,
the Bidens paid $150,439 in federal income taxes
, a 25% tax rate.
They also paid $30,765 in income taxes in Delaware and $2,721 in Virginia of the first lady's salary as a professor at Northern Virginia Community College.

In 2020, the presidential couple also earned just over $600,000.
As president, Biden earns a salary of $400,000 a year, along with a spending allowance of $50,000, an amount appropriated by Congress.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff,
also released their tax returns
, reporting $1.7 million in income in 2021, a similar amount to what they reported in 2020. They paid $523,371 in federal income taxes. , a tax rate of 31.6%.

"With this statement, the President has shared 24 years of tax returns with the public, once again demonstrating his commitment to transparency with the American people regarding the finances of the Chief of the Armed Forces," Biden said in a statement.

except Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, who claimed he couldn't release his returns because they were under audit.

As president, Biden has to be audited by tax authorities, a measure that has become mandatory since the Watergate scandal in 1972.
The Bidens also donated $17,394 to 10 charities, including a $5,000 donation to the Beau Biden Foundation.
Harris and Emhoff donated $22,100 to charity in 2021.
