Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the issue of the Bulgarian ship Tsarevna, whose crew was evacuated to Donetsk, will raise questions among the Bulgarians about the reason for their government's support for the Ukrainian authorities.
"Now, thanks to the Russian armed forces and the Donetsk forces, the Bulgarian sailors are safely returning home and perhaps they will have questions to their command about why those who rescued them were punished and at the same time supported the Ukrainians who put their lives and health at risk," Zakharova said on her Telegram channel.
Zakharova indicated that Ukrainian extremists held foreign citizens as hostages and used them as human shields, ignoring all the rules of international humanitarian law.
The Tsarevna ship, flying the Bulgarian flag, was trapped for several days in the Sea of Azov. On the thirteenth of this month, its crew, consisting of 15 people, 14 of whom were Bulgarian citizens, were evacuated to Donetsk, from where they are heading to their country.
