The images show new graves of citizens who died during the Russian invasion of the city of Irpin, in northern Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is almost two months old and the Russian offensive has intensified in recent days in different areas of the country, including its capital.

In the video that accompanies this news, a drone view shows rows of dozens of graves in Irpin, a town in the kyiv region.

According to information from the Reuters agency, it can be seen that in most of the graves the date is after February 24, the day the war began in the country.

In March, Oleksandr Markushin, mayor of Irpin, announced that the city had been liberated and the Ukrainians had regained control after leaving one of the most shocking images of the war: the destruction of their own bridges to stop the forces of Vladimir Putin.

Irpin is 20 kilometers from kyiv and before the war it had about 62,000 inhabitants.

Now, as shown in the video, families bury their loved ones in this cemetery.

Ukrainian police have recovered 269 bodies from Irpin since Russian troops left the city in late March, Serhi Panteleiev, deputy head of the main investigation department, said.

The town was one of the most attacked targets by Russia before its troops moved east.

Panteleiev has indicated that forensic work is being carried out to determine the cause of death of the victims.

He has also claimed that seven Irpin locations where civilians were allegedly shot have been examined, without giving further details.

The Ukrainian capital is one of the cities most attacked by the Russians.

Throughout the offensive, kyiv has witnessed bombings in residential areas, and its mayor, Vitali Klitschox, has asked citizens to stay home as the explosions continue.

Since Russian forces withdrew from cities and towns around kyiv, Ukrainian troops have shown journalists the bodies of what they say are civilians killed by Russian forces, houses destroyed and cars burned.

In addition, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that more than 4.9 million Ukrainians have fled their country due to the war.
