Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero affirmed that his country does not consider the sanctions imposed on Russia an effective way to solve the crisis in Ukraine, criticizing the world's neglect of humanitarian crises in other countries.
Tass news agency quoted Cafiero as saying that Argentina is proposing a return to dialogue and calm, and frankly we do not believe that imposing sanctions and embargo is a fruitful way to achieve peace, dialogue and diplomatic negotiations.
Cafiero added that the war in Europe has somewhat captured the public's attention, but the humanitarian crisis in Haiti is no less urgent and does not resurface because the media does not focus on it.
Cafiero noted that judging countries, imposing sanctions and embargoes is not Argentina's style and that such actions in the region have only led to more inequality and social backwardness.
In a related context, the spokeswoman for Argentine President Gabriela Cerruti said, "Buenos Aires will not support Russia's exclusion from all international organizations, including the G20, because this does not contribute to resolving the crisis."
