Coalition officials: "More troubled by Ra'am than another MK who will retire" | Israel today

Coalition officials express concern that the political upheaval and security situation will lead to secession in Abbas's party • "It is impossible to know what will happen" • Tomorrow: High Court hearing on Shekli declaring resignation

The holiday respite is over, and the partners in the government and the coalition will return to the battle for political survival.

The Knesset is scheduled to reconvene only on May 8, and by then no legislative challenges and votes for the coalition are expected, but threats to the coalition's integrity are still hovering over its head.

Senior coalition officials say they are more concerned about the RAAM than another MK who will defect.

"People do not understand the pressure the Arab representatives are under. If the security situation escalates - it will be even more difficult for them. Mansour Abbas is a big believer in the coalition, and by no means wants to retire or disband, but within his party the situation is not the same. "Taha is under great pressure, and does not see themselves as directly subordinate to Abbas. It is impossible to know what will happen there."

Another focus of pressure is among right-wingers.

There they try to broadcast that the bleeding has stopped, and insist that we will not see more defectors soon.

Those who are at the center of attention are Ayelet Shaked, Nir Orbach and Avir Kara.

People close to them say they are not talking about retirement now.

"The strategy is to take the crisis surrounding Silman's retirement and leverage it for results and achievements that can be achieved for the right-wing public," they said.

"Leverage the crisis and lead it to achievements."

"The left is no less pressured than the right. Even the left-wing government knows that if the government disintegrates, their chances of returning to power are low. They want to keep this government, and because of that more significant achievements can now be achieved for the right."

Meanwhile, another chapter in the battle between Prime Minister Bennett and a member of his party, Amichai Shikli, is expected today.

Shikli petitioned the High Court to issue a conditional order that would oblige Bennett to attend a hearing in the Knesset committee on his declaration as a retiree, a hearing that takes place at Bennett's request.

Shikli also asked the court to adjourn the regular hearing for tomorrow and give him more time to prepare for it, at least 30 days, and allow him to summon witnesses to support his arguments.

The petition was also filed against MK Nir Orbach on Saturday as chairman of the Knesset committee, the Knesset committee itself and MK Eitan Ginzburg as the acting director of the yeshiva.

Auerbach's mother passed away over the weekend.

However, the MK was not supposed to attend the committee hearing in the first place.

"Cut his feathers"

"In the absence of any explanation and reasoning, after a long winter year of almost a year, the respondents suddenly decided to summon the petitioner immediately, here and now, for a hearing on the retirement application," the petition filed by Shikli read.

"According to the Honorable Respondents, a significant factual dispute, relating to events spread over a long period of time, can and should be clarified in just four days, without allowing the injured party a right of argument by bringing witnesses, visual presentation of references or a minimum of reasonable time to prepare ... "In a series of arbitrary decisions lacking any legal source of authority, the respondents cut the petitioner's feathers, determined in their mission to prevent him from properly preparing for the hearing."

Last Wednesday, Shikli sent a letter to the Knesset committee, in which he noted 98 promises of members of the right-wing party that he claimed had been violated, emphasizing those of Bennett and Shaked.

The faction's statement said that "MK Shikli chose to grant a divorce to the faction and to act in complete opposition to its positions, while actively and deliberately acting in order to frustrate the faction, the coalition and the Israeli government."

Shikli is represented by Adv. Guy Bossy. Bennett is expected to be represented at the hearing by Adv. Amichai Weinberger, from the firm of Adv. Weinberger Bartentl & Co.

Bennett's lawyers, Weinberger and Adv. Adi Sadinsky Levy, stated: "This petition was born of sin, and its entire purpose is to undermine the work of the Knesset committee, and to make the required decision to declare the petitioner a retiree from his faction.

It is clear that one cannot agree with Shikli's conduct and his foolish attempt to present an alternative reality to his actions.

"As a matter of fact, this is a matter which is the essence of attacking the decision to convene a hearing in the case of MK Shikli in the Knesset Committee, and as is well known - determining the proceedings in the Knesset committee is a clear internal parliamentary procedure. , In which 'there is a fear of harming the fabric of democratic life, or the foundations of the structure of our parliamentary system'.

Needless to say, this is not at all close to being met in this case. It is not and can not be disputed that the decision to set the date of the hearing 18 days before the date of its convening, "Petitioner has a full and effective right to argue, and on the other hand - that he will not be allowed to turn the deliberations of the Knesset committee into a contemptible circus, which is inappropriate and does not fit the honorable status of the Knesset."
