Wolfratshausener Christian Schäfer (23) is part of the new Halamek show "Circus of Fantasy" – and enjoys it.

Wolfratshausen - A young man stands alone with his violin on the stage.

He slowly lifts the bow, strokes the strings and intones the song "She Wolf" by David Guetta.

After the last note, it's dead quiet.

Then the audience erupts in loud cheers.

The appearance of Christian Schäfer in Dominik Halamek's show "Circus of Fantasy" caused goose bumps.

"That was a performance that I really enjoyed," says the 23-year-old Wolfratshauser.

"Even if the T-shirt wasn't my first choice right away." The tight fit and the printed skin-colored fabric gave the impression that Schäfer was standing there with a bare upper body, tattooed all over.

"After the show, I was often asked about it," says Schäfer.

“But Dominik must have had something in mind.

In any case, it was a great contrast to a more classical instrument.”

Wolfratshauser began to “play by colors”

Christian Schäfer was already interested in music at the age of three.

"My two older sisters learned piano or piano and violin - you just want to join in," he says and laughs.

"So nobody definitely forced me." The keys on the piano were given colorful stickers, and the notes accordingly.

"I practically played by colour." A year later, Schäfer held his first violin in his hands.

Then the Tölz boys' choir became aware of the now seven-year-old and his clear singing voice.

Tours at home and abroad followed, as well as appearances in opera houses.

Schäfer stayed on as a soloist until his voice broke.

"The last concert, so to speak my farewell concert, was in St. Peter's Basilica in front of the Pope.

Simply unforgettable."

Back home, Schäfer intensified playing the violin, but now away from the classic to the modern.

Then Dominik Halamek came into contact with the then 17-year-old in 2016 through a mutual friend, the singer Franziska Sporer.

"The chemistry between us and the whole team was just right." Schäfer also took part in Halamek's online show "Hautnah" during the compulsory Corona break.

"And now we're finally back on stage."

Christian Schäfer hardly had stage fright

The musician hardly had stage fright - "after all, I'm used to performances." The only thing he thought about was how he could implement the dance steps as elegantly as possible, especially in the opening scene.

"I can remember the steps well, but somehow I felt a bit stiff, especially during the first show," he says self-critically.

Actually, a tour with "Circus of Fantasy" was planned for the spring.

"I very much hope that this can be made up for at some point."

And what does Schäfer do in the meantime?

In principle, what many others his age do: he studies.

"And that's to teach mathematics and physical education at grammar school." No music?

Schäfer shakes his head energetically.

"No.

Somehow, when I was at school, I always had the impression that the job of a music teacher was anything but rewarding.” (sh)
