Electorally, that in itself is a feat.
The re-elected president, however, had to have a modest triumph.
Not so much because of its score, clear, clean, broad;
more than the most optimistic polls promised him.
Emmanuel Macron broke the curse of outgoing;
and dramatically.
With some 58% of the vote, he found the score of Georges Pompidou in 1969. For that alone, 2022 will be a milestone in the history of the Fifth Republic.
