During his tenure as Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Lee Ka-chiu has exercised the relevant powers set out in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Gatherings) Regulation (Cap. 599G) to allow candidates for the Chief Executive from April 3 to May 8 , hold election-related gatherings among Election Commission members and the public.
The source said that under the relevant exemption, Li Jiachao can hold indoor activities to meet with the Election Committee; as to whether the media is allowed to enter for interviews, it will depend on the development of the epidemic at that time.
A person in the campaign office said that there are great restrictions on holding elections under the epidemic. Even if election gatherings are exempted, they must abide by requirements such as vaccine passes, and prepare the contact information of all attendees. The plan is still under planning and has yet to be finalized.
According to a person in the association, Li Jiachao is very strict about the epidemic prevention regulations. When Li Jiachao visited to canvass votes earlier, the campaign office proposed that only the election committee should participate in order to prevent too many people from gathering.
