According to the local authorities, the Ministry for State Security has been shot at in the conflict region of Transnistria, which borders Ukraine.
Accordingly, the building in the Transnistrian capital Tiraspol was damaged by explosions.
Photos, the authenticity of which could not be verified, showed smashed windows and a smashed entrance.
The authorities announced on Monday that the building had been fired at with anti-tank ammunition.
No one was injured due to a day off.
Transnistria actually belongs to the neighboring Ukrainian state of Moldova, and many people from Ukraine have fled here.
However, the breakaway republic has been ruled by a pro-Russian regime and supported by Russian troops since the 1990s.
In the Republic of Moldova, there have long been fears that the Kremlin could invade their country with its army.
The Moldovan authorities said in the capital, Chisinau, that it was not clear who fired.
However, it is obviously a provocation aimed at destabilizing the situation in the conflict region.
Neighboring Ukraine, which faces a Russian war of aggression, blamed Moscow for the shelling.
The Ukrainian military intelligence service in Kyiv accused Russia of wanting to stir up panic with this provocation.
Accordingly, the troops stationed in Transnistria could try to attack Ukraine from there in the direction of the city of Odessa on the Black Sea.
In a statement published in Kyiv, the secret service recalled a statement by a Russian commander who openly said last Friday that Moscow wanted to bring all of southern Ukraine up to Transnistria under its control.
