US President Joe Biden today asked Congress for $33 billion in additional "emergency aid" to Ukraine.
The request is more than double the size of the $13.6 billion package approved by lawmakers and signed by Biden last month, AFP reported.
A senior US official stated that among these funds, 20 billion in military aid, explaining that this enormous military and security assistance includes providing weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian forces, and this funding is expected to continue for at least five months.
The United States has provided Ukraine with weapons worth more than $3 billion since the start of the Russian special military operation on February 24, and Biden announced on February 13 new military aid, including heavy equipment, to Ukraine, worth $800 million.
Russia has repeatedly warned that the West's continued provision of weapons to Ukraine will further escalate the situation and exacerbate tension in the region.
