Werder Bremen suffered a heavy setback in the promotion race of the second division.
Bremen surprisingly lost 2-3 (2-1) against Holstein Kiel on Friday evening and carelessly gave up a 2-0 lead against coach Ole Werner's ex-club.
For Werner it was only the second defeat with Werder ever.
Bremen – In front of 42,100 spectators in the sold-out Bremen Weser Stadium, Niclas Füllkrug (2nd minute) and Marvin Ducksch had apparently put Werder ahead with a converted hand penalty (23rd).
But two own goals by Füllkrug (45') and Anthony Jung (71') brought Kiel back.
Five minutes before the end, Julian Korb even ensured the victory for Kiel and thus caused horror among the Bremen team, who had to give up the lead in the table to FC Schalke 04 again.
Kiel finally secured the class with the success.
