The National Assembly of Nicaragua approved this Wednesday two decrees that cancel the legal personality of another 50 civil society organizations, bringing the organizations closed this year to more than 125.
This cancellation had the favorable vote of 75 deputies from the caucus of the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front and the abstention of 16 deputies from minority parties.
Among the organizations closed are the Forum for Education and Human Development, which carried out independent research on the quality of education in the country;
the Central American Historical Institute, which is part of the Jesuit Central American University, and the Nicaraguan Academy of Sciences, whose objective was "to promote and disseminate science and scientific culture, as essential elements for sustainable human development," according to what is stated in your site on Facebook.

The cancellation of the legal status of these organizations is argued in a report sent to Parliament by the head of the Department of Registration and Control of non-profit civil associations of the Ministry of the Interior, Franya Urey, in which she raises the alleged breach of obligations of these organizations, according to the regulatory standards of the country.

According to the report, cited in the decree initiative that proposed the cancellation of 25 of those 50 organizations, they did not report their financial statements according to fiscal periods, and they did not update the detailed information of the members of their boards of directors and donations from cooperation external.

The National Assembly has closed dozens of civil organizations since the beginning of the protests against the government in 2018, for alleged breach of responsibilities or lack of transparency in their operations.
