Against the backdrop of tensions on the Temple Mount, the King of Jordan, who has arrived in the US, is expected to discuss regional issues with the US President • The king warned in his meeting with Christian leaders in New York

Jordanian King Abdullah is expected to meet this week with US President Joe Biden in Washington, a source close to the meeting told Reuters last night (Monday).

The source added that the meeting is expected to raise mainly regional issues.

This was when clashes broke out recently between Palestinian rioters on the Temple Mount and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the security forces, which led to a flood of condemnation in the Arab world.

At the same time, the Jordanian king warned during his meeting with Christian leaders in New York about "the ongoing restrictions on Christians in the Palestinian territories and in Jerusalem in particular, which threatens their existence if these pressures continue. Among other things, the king noted that" some church assets were confiscated Extremists and other church assets are subject to high taxes. "

Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Spadi stressed last night that "the Palestinian issue is at the top of the issues during His Majesty's visit to Washington."

In a media interview, the Jordanian official said that Jordan has been working continuously for calm in Jerusalem since before the month of Ramadan.

Spadi further claimed that there is a consensus in the world regarding the status quo in Jerusalem, and that "the entire Temple Mount is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims and any attempt to change this is playing with fire."

Abdullah arrived in New York yesterday to receive the Road to Peace Award with his wife, Queen Rania.

The award is presented by an institution of the Vatican delegation to the United Nations. From there he will travel to Washington to continue his working visit that began on Friday.
