If Emmanuel Macron intends to reform Europe and take its leadership, there is one man who will not overshadow him, it is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
This is the minimum observation that can be drawn from the re-election of the President of the Republic and from the first six months in office of the German Social Democratic leader.
On Monday, the former invoked the ghosts of Robert Schumann when addressing the European Parliament, saying that
"freedom and hope have the face of the European Union".
In a solemn address on public television on Sunday, the second took advantage of the only mandate entrusted to him by his constituents.
"I swore in my oath not to harm the German people,"
recalled the head of government, follower of the negative form.
"We do not undertake anything that could harm us and our partners,"
he added.
This very cautious formula has, once again, aroused the bitterness of the national press with regard to a
"phantom chancellor".
