The United Nations has warned of the catastrophic repercussions of any possible oil leak from the Safer oil tanker as a result of the Saudi aggression preventing maintenance of the floating oil tank off the Yemeni coast of Hodeidah, which contains more than one million barrels of crude oil.
"The repercussions of the explosion of the oil tanker Safer or the spillage of oil from it will be catastrophic," David Grisley, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, said at a press conference in Amman, stressing that the impact on the environment would be very large, and 20 billion dollars would be spent to aim Clean up the oil spill if it occurs.
Grisley pointed out that the SAFER is going through a major phase of decomposition, and with the passage of time, the chance of its crash and oil leakage increases, expressing his hope to raise about $80 million during a conference to be held next Wednesday, organized by the United Nations and the Netherlands to secure safe oil transportation in the first stage, and this amount is part of approximately $144 million to complete the rescue plan.
It is noteworthy that the Safer, which was manufactured 45 years ago and is used as a floating storage platform, loaded with about one million and one hundred thousand barrels of crude oil, valued at about $40 million.
