“The Death of an Employee” is a short story from Russian literature by Anton Chekhov, in which he expressed in a simple way what fear makes of a person. The director, Louay Shana, used it in the first third of his play, which was shown on the stage of Hamra Theater in Damascus. As for the rest of the show, it is a repercussion that has nothing to do with the story, putting his own mark to transform it into A work that carries with it social stories inspired by everyday life.
Over the course of an hour and a half, the show grabbed the audience's attention with a light-hearted performance of the reality of life with a graceful comedy, where the play tells the story of a simple employee who sneezed on the neck of an official by mistake, and this sneezing caused a state of panic in the heart of this employee, as he tried to apologize strongly within comedic and dramatic events.
The work that the curtain came down this evening, in which the championship was collective, and each actor had his role and his mark. The harmony between the heroes appeared at a high level, along with the young actors, some of whom had the opportunity to stand on the stage for the first time. Two young voices, Salah Tobji and Mustafa Khatib, emerged in it.
The artist Basil Haidar grabbed attention with a high-definition theatrical performance and drew with his tools non-repetitive characters, and he has been cut off from the stage since 2018, but he returns to it because he feels that it is his space to fly.
Haidar explained in a statement to SANA reporter that actors and technicians get tired during the preparation and rehearsals period, which often reach three or four months with continuous training hours, to be able to present a successful theatrical work that conveys the feelings and feelings of the actor directly to the audience for a limited period of days.
In turn, the artist Majed Issa Araj for his role in the play, where he presented three characters, each of a different character, and explained that the director relied on an integrated artistic structure for all secondary and primary characters, especially that they played more than one character at the same time, but they differed from the previous one to form together one visual block, most of which emerged in The simple and silent scenes greatly affected the events of the play and not in moving it, as the actors bear a double responsibility that makes them cling to the theater more.
The artist Zine El Abidine Shaaban appeared in several interconnected paintings, through which he showed his ability to employ his tools in embodying different roles, especially with regard to Syrian dialects, and presented a different style of realistic people.
Shaaban pointed out that the director gave opportunities to new young talents in their first appearance on the stage and was able to reflect their harmony, calling on theater directors to adopt amateur theater and invest their energies because theater is the father of arts.
In her first appearance, Malak Khatib indicated that she is a civil engineering graduate, but she is a theater enthusiast, and this work was a workshop through which she received extensive training for the show, expressing her happiness with this participation and said: “Standing on stage has a special impact, especially since the audience reads the body expressions of the actor and launches Provisions in place give us greater responsibility.”
It is noteworthy that the work included a group of actors: Ali Al-Qasim, Basil Haider, Majid Issa, Lamis Muhammad, Najat Muhammad, Muhammad Salem, Ahmed Al-Aboud, Elissar Saqour, Bara’ Smakari, Khaled Al-Qusair, Zain Al-Abidin Shaaban, Zainab Eid, Salah Al-Tobji, Imad Youssef , Mustafa Khatib, Marah Ismail, Malak Khatib, Nour Kabariti.
