The President of the Supreme Court, Justice Esther Hayut, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar and the Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon, issued a joint announcement this morning (Sunday) on the establishment of a new courthouse in Jerusalem.
The announcement, which was scheduled for Jerusalem Day, heralds the establishment of a project to build a new building, which will unite all the courts, except the Supreme Court and their High Court, another modern structure: the Magistrate's and District Courts in the city, including the Youth Magistrate's Court, Family Court, Beit The Traffic Complex will be located in a strategic location near the Government Quarter in Givat Ram, the Knesset and the Supreme Court, with the light rail route passing by and allowing easy access.
Today, the Magistrates' Courts (in the Russian compound) and the district (on Saleh a-Din Street) are located in old and crowded buildings from the Mandate period, which do not allow optimal service to the public, make legal coverage difficult and in the past have published articles criticizing the conditions of prisoners.
