If Lilibet - the nickname given to Elisabeth II by her family when she was a child - was propelled to the throne on February 6, 1952, the coronation took place fifteen months later in order to allow an appropriate period to pass after the death of a monarch.

Crowned on June 2, 1953 at the age of 27, the daughter of George VI became the sovereign of the United Kingdom and the head of the Commonwealth, an organization which at the time brought together 54 states.
