According to the AFP news agency, Chad has declared a state of emergency because of rising food prices as a result of the Ukraine war.
The head of the military junta in power in the African country, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, referred to the "constant deterioration in the food and nutrition situation" and warned of a "growing danger to the population" if humanitarian aid was not provided.
The military junta in N'Djamena also called on international partners to help the population.
As a result of the Russian attack on Ukraine, world grain prices have risen sharply.
Shipments from Ukraine and Russia, which make up a large part of the world wheat supply, collapsed.

According to the United Nations, 5.5 million people in Chad could be in need of humanitarian aid this year.
That's about a third of the population.
The World Food Program estimated in March that 2.1 million people in Chad would be affected by “severe food insecurity” by June.
The head of the African Union, Senegal's President Macky Sall, travels to Moscow on Friday to discuss, among other things, the situation on the world grain market with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
