(CNN Spanish) --

In a new hearing for the case of Dairo Úsuga, alleged leader of the Clan del Golfo known by the alias "Otoniel", which took place this Thursday in New York, it was announced that his lawyer Arturo Hernández withdrew and that he was replaced by Alexei Schacht.

The Prosecutor's Office warned that the process of delivering evidence by the US government will take time because it is a complex case, and also because of the volume of evidence they collected, including documents, recordings, interceptions of communications, etc.

On the other hand, they advanced that the case could include classified information, so they are trying to determine with the intelligence community how much data will be of that type and how long it will take to process.

Before the judge, the new defense attorney complained about "Otoniel's" treatment and detention conditions.

He said that he is in a cell without a window and that he can only go out to meet with his lawyer.

Hernández added that they are looking for a transfer to a prison that has windows so that “at least I can see the sun at some point in the day.”

Judge Dora Lizette Irizarry responded that this issue is best discussed between the Defense and the Prosecutor's Office or directly with the Federal Bureau of Prisons before going to court.

Ella irizarry added that conditions in prisons remain difficult due to restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Alias “Otoniel” was extradited to the United States from Colombia on May 4 to face charges of alleged participation in an international conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine, among others.

Úsuga pleaded not guilty to those charges in his first appearance in federal court for the Eastern District of New York.
