New York-Sana

Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, affirmed that the United States committed crimes in Syria without any accountability and continues to occupy part of its territory, indicating that Western countries are using the International Criminal Court as a political tool to cover up their crimes.

During a session of the UN Security Council today, Nebenzia referred to the double standards adopted by the West in using the International Criminal Court as a political tool by providing it with financial resources in return for not prosecuting its soldiers for their crimes, as they continue the illegal occupation of sovereign countries and attack them militarily without there being any accountability for these crimes.

Nebenzia directed Western countries by saying, "Your record of crimes is long. If you really want to condemn aggression, first condemn your military adventures and your bloodthirsty colonial wars against indigenous peoples, and start holding yourself accountable. This step may bring us closer to ensuring a just world order in which there is no place for any self-exception."

Nebenzia pointed out that there is political pressure on the International Court that may lead to inconsistent decisions on the situation in Ukraine, which Moscow rejects, pointing out that European countries on May 20 sent a joint statement to the court in an unprecedented attempt to influence its position on the situation in Ukraine. Ukraine.

The Russian delegate referred to the West's position on the crimes committed by the Nazis in Ukraine, saying that "justice becomes a play when the West praises the Nazis' crimes and describes them as heroes."

Nebenzia warned that the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, who exposed the crimes of the American forces, will remain in prison until his last days in the event that he is extradited to the United States, indicating that “without the materials published by Assange, the world would never have known about the crimes of the American and British military personnel in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as about Torture in Guantanamo Bay and the Secret Prisons of the CIA in Europe.

The Russian delegate asked: “What did the countries that call today to fight accountability evasion after that information became public?

Did they seek to open investigations and hold those responsible among their own citizens accountable?

No, the only real pursuit against him was Assange himself.”

He added, "The police system in the United States does not leave any doubts that Assange will spend the rest of his life behind bars if he survives until the trial in general, and this is all we should know about the West's attitudes towards fighting the evasion of accountability when it comes to them in particular." .

The Russian delegate indicated that the United States committed crimes in Syria without any accountability and continues to occupy part of its lands, pointing out that Western countries do not fulfill their obligations under the cross-border assistance mechanism in Syria.

He explained that "the Westerners have not fulfilled their written commitments in Resolution 2585 regarding establishing a mechanism and providing Syria with funds for early recovery programmes, of which only 3 percent have been allocated."
