It's the party of the year: in London alone, tens of thousands of people celebrated their record queen at the start of the jubilee. Four generations of Windsors waved from the balcony - but some faces were missing.

So far, the Queen has always personally inspected the parade.

Due to limited mobility, her 73-year-old son Charles had to step in for her for the first time.

The monarch herself greeted from the palace balcony.

Tens of thousands of people cheered Queen Elizabeth II from the roadside on the occasion of her 70th jubilee.

Some of them had camped there for several nights to get the best spots.

“I think it's really historical, we came with all the grandchildren and we're all excited.

You know, it's 70 years that she's on the throne and she's done so much for the country, it's just amazing."

The fact that during the festivities activists from "Animal Rebellion" climbed over the fence and threw themselves in front of a band was lost in the frenzy of joy.

The troublemakers were taken away and the celebration continued.

“We've been here many times but we just love the royals and as you can see the atmosphere today is fantastic.

I absolutely love it, everyone has come, it's packed here so yeah we're just here today for the atmosphere.«

Then the highlight of the day: The closest family members of the "eternal" monarch wave together with Elizabeth II from the balcony.

Also present: the children of Price William and Duchess Kate.

Not there: William's brother Harry and his wife Meghan.

They were allowed to watch the parade, but not on the balcony.

In the coming days, the four-day celebrations will continue with a thanksgiving service and a big party at Buckingham Palace.
